Whilst I’m happy to work with businesses of any size, typically much of my work is with smaller businesses and that is where I feel I can add the most value.

Having spent years working on projects at lower volumes, I’ve built up a solid understanding of the manufacturing techniques and cost structures that make sense at that scale.

That knowledge changes the way I approach a problem.

Many product development agencies default to solutions designed for high volume production, which isn’t the best fit it many cases.

I look for what works best for the client I’m working with, taking into account cost and volume constraints, which can require some creative thinking.

A good example is a project I worked on with someone who needed a range of injection-moulded components for an irrigation system.

Some parts were needed in sufficient quantities to justify an injection moulding tool, while others were only required in small numbers but were still essential to the finished product.

My customer wanted to maintain the same standard of quality and finish for all the parts.

We reviewed a number of options. Rather than paying for multiple separate tools (expensive) or going for a workaround that would have affected the quality of the end result, we worked with the toolmaker to develop a single tool with sections that could be closed off using inserts.

The result was one tool with a few inserts, that allowed all the components to be produced to the same standard.

My experience with smaller businesses and lower production volumes helped me come up with this solution, one that the client was very happy with!
